Understanding Isaiah
December 20, 2009 3:14 am ReferenceAnyone who has ever studied the writings of the Old Testament prophet Isaiah will concur that he can be extremely hard to understand. Yet, Nephi, a prophet from the Book of Mormon quoted Isaiah to his people constantly because of the “plainness of his words.” With a thorough background knowledge of how Isaiah wrote, however, he can become much easier to understand. Mormon Doctrine clearly teaches that all Old Testament prophets testified of Christ. Isaiah was one of the greatest of these. He used a lot of history and poetry in his writing. So, if one learns the history of the Jews as well as the style of Jewish poetry, one can understand Isaiah much more easily and learn even more Mormon Doctrine through him.
