Learning How to Photoshop Images

My dad has always been very creative graphically, being able to blend images and make creative website banners. When I am in need of a good banner for a new blog, or if I just need a picture touched up, I always have to ask my dad how to photoshop the images. Although, I have asked over and over again, some of the filters and options really can be confusing, which is why I have had a hard time actually learning all the tools. I am sure if I used photoshop more often I would catch on quicker, but only using the program once in a while, I always run into one question or another.
