The Chaplain’s Role in the Army Reserves
August 5, 2008 4:14 am MiscellaneousIf you were to enlist in the Army Reserves as a Chaplain, you would have the responsibility of caring for the spiritual well-being of soldiers and their families. Your parish could consist of over 1,500 people, and you would be exercising a leadership role in a religiously diverse population. You still must minister in accordance with the guidelines of your distinct faith. You would oversee their spiritual care whether they are training or deployed. In addition, you would assist with the care of the congregation of your assigned post performing religious ceremonies, rituals and rites.
A chaplain in the Army Reserves begins serving as a staff officer and is responsible for providing advice regarding religion, morals and morale as a member of the commander’s special staff. You would be a non-combatant and would not carry a weapon. The chaplain’s assistant provides for your security and for that of the Unit Ministry Team.
