Club Drugs
February 16, 2008 7:09 pm HealthEcstacy. Ketamine. GHB. Those are just a few of the names floating around at raves, parties and dance clubs night after night. For some, they’re what makes it a party, but the good times they provide can end in date rape, overdoses, and death.
The intensity of a dance club, with its pulsating beats and colorful lights, makes it an environment where drugs are able to flow freely within the noise and darkness. Drugs provide a way for clubgoers to keep up their energy and enthusiasm, letting them dance all night long. In their efforts to maintain the energy to work all day and party all night, they often become dependent on these substances to provide them with the rush they feel that they need.
But when they crash, they crash hard. Using drugs to fight off exhaustion only means that when it hits, it hits all at once. In addition, most club drugs are cut poorly, meaning that they can result in an overdose on just the first try. The dark environment means that it’s easy to slip a drug such as GHB into someone’s drink, leading to predators attempting to take advantage.
Drug addiction centers in Texas and other states are overwhelmed with people recovering from the effects of these narcotics. It is possible to get off them — and to have a good time at the party without help from pills. Partying can be just as addictive as any narcotic..but when the party’s over, many clubgoers have a lot to answer for.
