Any Reason To Promote Hip Hop Dance Classes In London Schools?
November 17, 2008 11:29 am ArtsSchools are about giving children an education that will prepare them for life and give them valuable skills. So it might be surprising for a parent to pick up their child from school and find they’ve been learning hip hop dance.
Hip hop does get negative press becuase of the lifestyles of some of it’s biggest stars involved in crime, gangs and violence or ‘glamourising’ of violence in their lyrics. Of course there are many arguments whether it glamourises the bad path or merely makes music about the realities of life.
However the issue of students being offered hip hop dance classes in London schools should be less of a worry because the dancing version of hip-hop at least has much less of a chequered history.
In fact it has pretty much a clean slate, a couple of unpleasant events like you might get in any sport, but it is usually a positive activity that gives many children something to do and a focus in their life.
